He grew up in Plainville, Indiana graduating from Plainville High School and began a career in the United States Army as an Engineer Equipment Mechanic. He was a Korean War veteran and earned numerous medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal as well as the Good Conduct Medal. Around 1960, he decided he had enough of the Indiana winters and scraping ice off the windshield. He moved his family to West Palm Beach, Florida and took a job in the welding department of United Technologies, where 36 years later, he would retire a Rocket Division Supervisor. The move from West Palm Beach to Jupiter came in 1971, along with great memories of camping with his boys and being Scout Master to their Boy Scout Troop. In 1995, Neal started attending Beacon Baptist Church where he met Jan. Both widowed, the two began dating and married on June 13, 1997. Together, they enjoyed spending time with family, traveling in the mountains, cruises, relaxing on the porch swing, going to church, and above all serving the Lord. Neal loved working with his hands and could build or fix anything. He used his welding skills to artistically create many beautiful welded sculptures which the family will treasure forever. His favorite books were the Bible and any Western novel.
He is predeceased by his parents, Oliver and Clara Hunter; two brothers, Jackie Hunter and Charles Hunter and his first wife, Patricia Hunter.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jan Hunter; two sons, Mike Hunter (Lorry) and Mark Hunter; a daughter, Jessie Dickerson (Kevin); two step-sons, Jeff Baker (Cindy) and David Baker (Michelle) and two step-daughters, Kimberly Windish, and Keri Keuning (Duane). He was loved and adored and will always be “Papaw” to many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
