Ray was born on October 13, 1939, in Oceanside, New York, to Donald Verity and Pauline Gallo Verity. He was the middle of three boys, growing up alongside his older brother Don and younger brother Tom. During his high school years, the family relocated to Naples, Florida, where they built and operated the Gulf Motel.
Ray attended the University of Florida, where he proudly earned a degree in Building Construction in 1967. His college years were interrupted when he was drafted into the United States Army, where he honorably served his country for two years before returning to complete his education. Ray remained a devoted University of Florida Gator throughout his life and proudly displayed his Gator colors.
Following graduation, Ray began a distinguished career in construction management in South Florida. As a project manager, he oversaw the development of numerous condominium and school building projects in Palm Beach County. One of his proudest accomplishments was his work on the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach.
On June 22nd, 1990, Ray married the love of his life, Janice. Together they built a life full of memories. Ray was the father of David Verity and Candie Verity, and through his marriage to Janice he welcomed three additional children into his life: David Watson, Angel Watson, and Derek Watson. He was proud to call all five of them his children and cherished the special bond he shared with each of them.
Ray was a devoted grandfather to Drew, Amber, Morgan, Tyler, Stella and Dylan. When his first grandchild, Drew, was born, Ray thought life couldn’t get any better. When the other grandchildren arrived, they were the icing on the cake! The arrival of his great-grandson, Dutton, brought him even more happiness and completed a circle of love that meant everything to him.
Ray lived life with enthusiasm and curiosity, enjoying boating, scuba diving and snow skiing. Ray and Janice loved to travel, and their adventures became cherished family memories.
Rarely seen without a camera nearby, Ray became known as the family photographer, documenting holidays, vacations, milestones, and everyday moments that might otherwise have been forgotten.
Nothing brought Ray more joy than supporting his kids and grandkids. Whether it was a school program, sporting event, dance recital, or music performance, he was always there, proudly cheering them on.
There was never a dull moment when Ray, Don and Tom were together. Their bond as brothers was filled with laughter, stories, and a lifetime of shared memories.
Those who knew Ray also knew he had a sweet tooth. He never lost his appreciation for dark chocolate, ice cream sundaes and especially Yellow Marshmallow Peeps!
Raised in the Catholic faith, Ray maintained his spiritual foundation throughout his life, attending church more often in his later years.
On Monday, June 15, 2026, Ray passed away peacefully under the compassionate care of Trustbridge Hospice. Janice and family were at his bedside, surrounding him with love during his final moments. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Don.
Ray will be remembered for his dedication to family, his adventurous spirit, his generous heart, and his unwavering pride in being a Florida Gator. Most of all, he will be remembered for the love he gave so freely and the countless memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him.
Though he will be deeply missed, Ray’s legacy lives on through Janice, his children, grandchildren, great-grandson, extended family, and the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
