After graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force where he would enjoy a twenty-year career and retire as a Master Sergeant. Following his military career, he enjoyed a 24-year career with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department, retiring with the rank of Major. While he worked at the Sheriff’s Department, he attended night school to earn his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at Florida Atlantic University. He was an integral part of the construction of the new jail that is currently located on Gun Club Road in West Palm Beach. He was the President of the American Jail Association from 1994 to 1995. He was a true professional and loved his work.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Marie E. Kerr, together they shared a true and lasting love and were a wonderful example of what marriage should be. He is also survived by his daughters, Deborah R. Kerr and Teresa A. Rodgers (William R. Rodgers); his grandchildren, Stephanie R. Denton (James R. Denton), Evan W. Rodgers and Brian R. Rodgers and his great grandchildren, Blake R. Denton and Lauren E. Denton.
The family will celebrate his life at a ceremony at Riverside Memorial Park in Tequesta on July 20, 2024, at 11:00 am.
