Ronald Rudy Hunerberg was born March 17, 1960, in the Bronx, NY, to Ronald and Annette Hunerberg. In 1968, Ron and his family moved to Hazlet, NJ, where he graduated from Raritan High School in 1978 as a dual varsity athlete in basketball as a guard and baseball as an outfielder. He later attended Rutgers University in NJ for two years before transferring to Montclair State University and majoring in Biology in 1982.
His lifelong friend of 50 years, Joe Martini, remembers Ron as an overall great friend who loved sports. “He was extremely competitive. He was definitely a basketball and baseball guy. He loved coming to Marietta in the summer and watching AJ’s games.”
In 1986, Ron received a Doctorate of Chiropractic degree at Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, GA. That same year, he moved to West Palm Beach and worked alongside Dr. Michael Nathanson. In 1989, Ron’s passion for his patients led him to open up his own office, Florida Chiropractic. In 2016, Ron joined with Dr. John Papa at Action Physical Therapy, where he continued to care for his patients’ needs.
In 2002, Ron married Jo, his devoted wife of 19 years, in West Palm Beach. They met in 1998, and their first memorable date was at TGI Friday’s Restaurant. Their instant union created a family of seven with five intelligent, caring, and loving young sons.
Ron’s favorite pastime was coaching, mentoring and cheering on his five sons in basketball, soccer, and baseball. Ron’s fondest memories include coaching, mentoring, and cheering baseball players, especially all his son’s ball games.
Ron’s love for baseball intensified in 2011 when he was asked to be assistant coach for AJ’s T-ball All-Star team. The Gardens Thunder was a powerhouse team burning through the state tournament with a 6-0 record on their way to the T-Ball Florida Championship. The season continued with an unprecedented run in the T-Ball Southeast Regional Championships, where the Thunder made it to the final championship game. Ron was hooked; that was the start of his illustrious coaching career and a slew of winning baseball seasons. He was especially proud of AJ’s winning season at Palm Beach Gardens High School.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Jo; five stellar sons, Justin Ehrler, Austin Ehrler, Ronald Hunerberg, Anthony (AJ) Hunerberg, and Dylan Hunerberg; a brother, Dr. Richard Hunerberg; sister-in-law, Rhonda Hunerberg; three aunts, Arlene Murray, Camille D’Allessandro and Lorraine D’Alessandro Spinelli and four nieces and nephews.
Ron is preceded in death by parents, Ronald and Annette Hunerberg and a brother, Michael Hunerberg.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL 33458, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
