Stephen Langhorne Perkins, age 72, of Hobe Sound, FL passed away October 23, 2021 of natural causes. Steve spent his early years in Charlottesville, VA and the majority of his life in Richmond, VA and the suburbs of Philadelphia. He played football and lacrosse at The Haverford School and graduated in 1967. Steve also played football at University of South Carolina, but had too much fun in college and didn’t stay long. Years later he was accepted into Wharton business school and earned his MBA. He was an entrepreneur at heart and loved a business challenge. His endeavors included time in the industrial gas business, a small greeting card company, a machine that recycled incinerator ash, and a South African cream liquor. His biggest passions were sailing and racing - he loved nothing more than to be out on the water. His first sailboat was a C&C 37 affectionately named “Kapey” after his mother. His family has many fond memories of time on the boat exploring the Chesapeake Bay and Caribbean islands.
He is survived by his three children, Ryan P. Woodbury (and Jeffrey), Carter L. Perkins and Katharine P. Love (and Michael). Cappy has six grandchildren: Kate, Lila, Witten, Sam, Marley and Max. He leaves behind his stepmother, Mary Bryan Perkins and his sister, Dorothy Perkins Gilbert and her sons, Tyler, Campbell and Foster. He is survived by his first mates - Julie Bendle (married 8 years), Paula Perkins (married 30 years) and Cindy Crane (partners for 7 years). Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Katharine Patterson Perkins and Chiswell Dabney Langhorne Perkins. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Steve requested that his ashes be scattered at sea. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Steve’s memory to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
