Thomas Elliott Farmer

Tom was born in Dallas, Texas on March 15, 1947 to Frank and Iris Farmer. He grew up alongside his late brother, Bill Farmer, and childhood friends that remained connected for a lifetime. The ‘Wynnewood Boys’ became extended family and a joyous tie to his Texas roots.

A proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Tom earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering. Following graduation, he began his distinguished career with Pratt & Whitney in 1970. As he moved up through the ranks, he was appointed as Chief Engineer for development of the F-119 engine in the F-22 stealth fighter. He continued on to earn an MBA from Harvard University as he chose to cross over to Program Management. Tom was then appointed Vice President, Program Manager for the engines in the F-22 Raptor and then the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. He served as President of Pratt & Whitney Military Engines for seven years before retiring from a remarkable 40 year career.

He met the love of his life, Catherine Farmer, while attending UT at Austin. Even though their study sessions were often traded for a night of dancing, he excelled in his studies. As a committed team, they enjoyed life’s adventures including moves to West Hartford, CT and Asheville, NC, although they remained anchored in Palm Beach Gardens. Through it all, a deep faith has guided his life decisions. Tom and Cathy were one of the twelve families that founded Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, and in retirement he developed a Leadership Ministry at HSLC, aspiring to guide others into Servant Leadership. His leadership has been a true blessing over the years..

Tom found joy as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He shared his passions with his family including the mountains of North Carolina, Texas Longhorns, an afternoon drive with no destination, barbeque, boating, fishing, golf, and just having fun. He was also an accomplished marathon runner with a deep respect for competition and true sportsmanship. Tom loved the arts from the symphony, theater, and live music to all the visual arts, but he especially adored seeing the art and performances his granddaughters created.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Catherine Farmer; their daughter, Amanda Farmer McNally and son-in-law Gavin McNally; his beloved granddaughters, Jordan and Elise; his nieces, Jennie Brouillette (Kyle) and Missy Keomanivong (Souk); his great-nephew, Liam and his sister-in-law, Patricia Nastasiak.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 17, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Aycock-Riverside Funeral Home at 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 11am at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 13301 Ellison Wilson Rd, Juno Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Spirit Lutheran Church.
