Prior to moving to Jupiter, FL he had been a resident of Allendale, NJ and White Plains, NY. During World War II he served as a Lieutenant, Infantry, with the 80th Division in France. He was awarded the Purple Heart in 1944. Thomas was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was an executive with B. Altman and Company, Fifth Avenue, New York. Thomas was Managing Director of their stores located in Short Hills, NJ and Paramus, NJ. He was past President of the Rotary Club in Paramus, NJ. Thomas was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary and received recognition from the Walter Head Foundation. Other activities included working with handicapped children and the Girl Scouts. He was a past President of the New York Retail Merchants Association and Chairman of the Better Business Bureau for Northern New Jersey and lower New York State.
Thomas is survived by his wife Mary Howe Vier, and their children; Susan Pussilano of Chicago, IL, Ann Marie Vier of Lincoln Park, NJ, Thomas H. Vier, Jr. of Mahwah, NJ, Philip S. Vier of Ridgewood, NJ, Peter R. Vier of Jupiter, FL and Nancy Kearns of Bedford, NY, and Fourteen grandchildren.
Friends may visit the family at the Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, Fl 33458, on Wednesday, March 5, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, 204 US Hwy. 1, Tequesta, Fl, on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 1:00pm.
