Waldo Arroyo was born on October 15, 1959, to the late Francesca and Antonio Arroyo. He departed this life on August 16, 2026 surrounded by love and leaving behind a lifetime of memories that will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
Waldo grew up in the Patterson Projects in the South Bronx, a place that would forever be woven into the story of his life. It was there that he formed friendships that stood the test of time, creating bonds with several lifelong friends who remained a part of his journey and who now join his family in cherishing his memory. Most significantly, it was in the Patterson Projects that a young teenage Waldo met a young teenage Laura, beginning a love story that, despite the twists and turns of life, would ultimately bring them back to one another.
Among the most beautiful chapters of Waldo’s life was his enduring 51-year love story with his wife, Laura. Sweethearts since 1975, life eventually took Waldo and Laura on separate journeys, but their story was far from over. Years later, their paths crossed once again, rekindling a love that had never truly been forgotten. On March 1, 2016, Waldo married the love of his life, beginning another chapter in a story that proved some hearts are simply meant to find their way back to one another.
Their love was especially evident during Waldo’s final journey. As his health declined, Laura lovingly and faithfully cared for him, remaining by his side and never leaving him until his last breath. Through the difficult days, she was his caregiver, his comfort, his companion, and, most importantly, his wife. Her unwavering presence was a beautiful testament to the promises they made to one another and to a love that endured through life’s joys, challenges, and ultimately, its final goodbye.
Waldo was the father of two sons, Christopher and Michael. He experienced the profound heartbreak of losing his oldest son Christopher, who preceded him in death. He leaves behind his son, Michael, along with two beloved grandchildren, Kamari and Michael Jr., who will carry a part of their grandfather’s legacy into the next generation.
Family was an important part of Waldo’s life. He leaves behind his loving siblings, Richard and his husband, Rickey; Danette and her husband, Benjamin; and Amanda and her husband, Alfred. Together, they shared the kind of history that only brothers and sisters can share—a lifetime of family experiences, memories, laughter, challenges, and love. He also leaves to cherish his memory his nieces and nephews, Alexa, Tiffany, Tess, Felicia, Gil, Antonio, Manny, Aeden, and Tayden, each of whom holds their own special memories of their uncle.
Through his marriage to Laura, Waldo’s family grew to include his bonus son and daughter, Christopher and Victoria, whom he embraced as part of his family.
And then there was Remy, Waldo’s furry best friend and faithful companion, who brought him a special kind of companionship, comfort, and unconditional love.
Anyone who knew Waldo also knew about his love for the New York Yankees. He was a devoted fan who enjoyed cheering on his team through the victories, the disappointments, and everything in between. His love for the Yankees was simply one of those things that made Waldo, Waldo—and it will undoubtedly bring a smile whenever family and friends see those familiar pinstripes or hear someone say, “Let’s Go Yankees!”
Waldo proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. His military service was an important chapter in his life and a reflection of his willingness to serve something greater than himself.
Waldo’s life was made up of many chapters. He was a son and brother, a devoted husband, a father and grandfather, an uncle, a soldier, and a friend. His journey was one marked by family, service, friendship, love, loss, and the extraordinary blessing of finding his way back to the woman he first met so many years ago in the South Bronx.
Those who loved Waldo will remember his voice, his personality, the laughter and family gatherings, his Yankees pride, and the ordinary moments that now become extraordinary memories. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love he shared, the friendships he nurtured, and the memories he created will remain.
For those who loved Waldo, saying goodbye will never mean forgetting.
His life will be remembered. His love will be carried forward.
And his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Rest peacefully, Waldo. You were loved, you will be missed, and you will never be forgotten.
