Al graduated Newark High School with multiple varsity letters in several sports. He then received a degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware courtesy of a football/academics scholarship. After college, he spent several years with Price Waterhouse Accounting Firm, moving onto Jacob's Transfer Company, next Susquehanna Corporation, then American Finance Corporation. He completed his career retiring from GEICO Corporation in 2000 after 22 years of service as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
During these 22 years, he joined a struggling GEICO and saw it through its acquisition and absorption by Berkshire Hathaway in 1995. He spent the next five years in executive management roles, smoothing the transition from an NYSE-listed company to a fully operating independent subsidiary.
In his retirement, Al was able to continue his love of baseball for the next 19 years through the Jupiter Senior Softball League and the Montgomery County Senior Softball Association as player and at times manager.
