William R Monat

have a memory or condolence to add?

October 11, 2017

As I mentioned during his retirement ceremony as the Chancellor of the Illinois Regent System, Bill was a success story. His entire career and the positions he held documented that success. As a friend and former colleague I
I can personally attest to that fact, My wife Phyllis and I also wish to recognize the great contributions made to that success by his wife Jo and their five children of which he was very proud.

In my 31 years at NIU Bill was easily the best president we had. A gentleman and a scholar who understood the mission of a university.

I was very fortunate to work at Northern Illinois Univ at the time Bill Monat was President. He was the best. He was such a leader and had such a vision for NIU. Also, I might add he was such a "down-to-earth" guy.

My condolences to his family

Sonja & I extend our condolences to his family. We will always treasure his friendship and wisdom. He was the best university president I knew in over 50 years in higher education.

Bill was a giant among men. Led Northern Illionois University into national prominence: a Law School, Engineering School, Division 1 Athletics... he gave me my dissetation topic and was the first person to congratulate me upon my oral defense. My condolences to his family.
