Augustine Feliciano Hosino, Jr. “Auggie” or “Sonny Boy” to his friends and family, died on September 2, 2026, in the comfort of his own home. How do we fit a lifelong tribute in such a small space for a man that despised overly serious and traditional obituaries?
Dad married smart, funny, kind, and beautiful women. They have two girls, Chantel Kanani Hosino (Harwood) and Jolynn Alohalani Hosino (Kaisa), and one son, Augustine Feliciano Hosino, III. He taught them to fish, hunt, surf, to love the land and ocean, to ride horses, and how to properly get dirty. He served in the United States Navy as an Air Traffic Controller, First Class. He spent time as a farmer In Texas and at Haleakala Dairy on Maui. He was a truck driver. But he was so much more.
He had a lifelong love affair with hats, belt buckles, animals, Hawaiian chili pepper water, rodeos, the ocean, fishing, and music. His most recent hobbies included short walks to the library to gossip with the security guard, giving his kids a heart attack when he wouldn’t answer his phone for days, playfully giving firefighters a hard time, watching the yoga classes that took place down the street, and spending hours on the phone with the most Haole of son-in-laws resulting in a fully pidgin experience that would render both the Norse and Hawaiian ancestors speechless.
Most of all, he took great pride in his grandchildren, Maya “Fin” Kamakani and Bodhi Kaimana Denali Harwood, children of Ryan and Kanani Harwood. Kamaehu, Kaedan and Jaleigh “Mikilani” Kaisa, children of Jolynn and Kulua Kaisa. And Nohea and Kailani Hosino, children of Auggie Hosino, III.
His spirit is not only carried on in his children and grandchildren, but also by Henrietta, the neighborhood hen that Dad “adopted” from his neighbor, and the 87 or so hats that he left behind.
Services will be held at Ballards Mortuary on Wednesday Sept 30, 2026 with visitation from 9am-11am, 11am service followed by closing.Your presence, prayers, and support are deeply appreciated as we come together to celebrate a life that will forever remain in our hearts.
