Bartolome Nicolas Santiago Sr.

August 24, 1931 – June 3, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Bartolome Nicolas Santiago, Sr., of the age of 94. He peacefully passed away on June 3, 2026, in Anaheim California, surrounded by his children.

Born on August 24, 1931, in Alcala, Pangasinan, Philippines, he moved to Maui in 1969 with his beloved wife, Enriqueta “Andrea” Nava Santiago, who preceded him in death. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, hard work, and devotion to family.

A devoted husband, father, and provider, Bartolome dedicated more than 25 years to Pioneer Mill Company as an accountant while also serving for over 20 years as a security guard for Kapalua Land and Company. Working two full-time jobs for many years, he made countless sacrifices to provide his children with opportunities for a better future. Witnessing their accomplishments became both his and his beloved wife’s greatest joys and proudest rewards. 

Bartolome loved spending his free time working in the garden and took pride in nurturing both his plants and the home he shared with his wife. Their home was a warm and welcoming haven where their grandchildren were always embraced with love, kindness, and open arms. It became a place where they gathered after school, spent their summers creating memories they will treasure for a lifetime. He was an avid chess player and was delighted in the strategy and challenge of the game. He was also committed to living a healthy lifestyle, faithfully maintaining a daily routine of stretching and exercise well into his later years.

His commitment extended beyond his family. He proudly served as a board member on The West Maui Federal Credit Union (currently The Maui County Federal Credit Union), Maui Filipino Community Council, Magsingal Association of Maui, and Bahay Kubo Heritage Foundation. He also became a guiding hand for relatives and friends seeking a better life, helping their family members immigrate to the United States and navigate the path toward U.S. citizenship. He was also known for preparing income tax returns and served as a notary public. He gave generously of his time and talents, his willingness to help left a lasting impact on many lives.

He is lovingly survived by his children: Patricio (Rosario) Santiago, Shirley (Elmer) Tolentino Sr., Remely (Galen) Bilog, Bartolome (Jane) Santiago, Jr., Caroline (Roger) Jocson, Gregory (Pearl) Santiago; 12 grandchildren: Chad, Mark, Leilani, Erwin, Justin, Elmer Jr., Daniel, Jason, Patricio W.J., Isabel, Julianne, and Makaio; and 15 great grandchildren: Kaimalie, Bailey, Saydee, Presley, Leiana, Xeila, Deisha, Noah, Melia, Ikaiah, Audrey, Brysen, Jaxon, Noemi, and Mason. Each was blessed by his unwavering love, guidance, and example.

Though our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the many years we shared with him. We find comfort in knowing that he is reunited in Heaven with our beloved mother, together once again in eternal peace and love.

Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Ballard Family Mortuary from 4:00 - 8:00pm, Family viewing from 4:00 - 4:30pm, and Public viewing from 4:30 - 6:00pm and 6:30 - 8:00pm. A prayer service will begin at 6:00pm.

A Celebration of Life service will continue on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Sacred Hearts Mission Catholic Church, Family viewing from 8:30 - 9:30am and Public viewing from 9:30 - 10:30am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00am - 12:00pm. Burial will take place at 2:00pm at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haiku.
