Bryan Matteo-Mendes

Born on January 29, 2007 in Wailuku, Maui, Bryan was the son of Sherri-Lynn Mendes and John “Johnny” Matteo.

Bryan was raised in Waihe’e where he enjoyed going down to the beach, hanging out at the park, riding bikes and skateboards, and playing in the dirt. All the old timers of Waihe’e knew him and he knew them. Bryan briefly attended Waihe’e Elementary and later moved to Pukalani Elementary until 5th grade, followed by Kalama Intermediate, then Baldwin High School. In 2022, his Sophomore year, Bryan joined Central Maui Boxing Club. Although boxing was short lived due to a sickness he overcame, it was his passion and he carried that everywhere he went. He was a fighter and although life threw combos at him he beat them all. Bryan graduated from Baldwin High School in May of 2025. After High School, Bryan got his first official job as a Counselor/Leader for the children of Pomaika’i Elementary School’s A+ program which he loved. When he wasn’t working or spending time with his family he’d be enjoying time with his second family at 1523 Game Farm. No matter where he was or what crowd he was in he remained the same sweet, respectful, loving boy with a smile everyone will always remember.

Bryan is survived by his mom and dad, Sherri-Lynn Mendes and John “Johnny” Matteo. Siblings; Shairah-Lei Manaois-Matteo, Jayse Matteo, Anuhea Yamashita-Mendes, and Po’okela Yamashita. Grandparents; David Mendes, Racquel (Iokepa) Caires, John (Julie) Matteo, and Darlene Matteo. Great grandparents; Ernest (Jeanie) Mendes, Charla (Harvey) Miguel, and Linda Montoya. Aunty; Rhiannon (Jared) Cachola, Uncles; David (Alyssa) Mendes, Dustin (Te’a) Mendes, Mario Matteo, Jromeo Matteo, Angelo Matteo, Domingo Paneto, Jossaiah Paneto, and Kevin McCune. Cousins; Rhian, Rhain-Deraj, Rhija, Kamahina, Rhailee, Haizley, and Hoku’alohi. Niece; Rhemedie-Evergreen. Along with all of his uncles, aunties, cousins, and friends that loved him dearly.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului, Maui at 9:00 a.m. Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Bryan’s Life at Paukukalo Hawaiian Homes Park at 1:00 p.m.
