

Carol Mae Ansai Ball, 87, of Wailuku, Maui, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, leaving behind a legacy defined by integrity, education, and unwavering dedication to the people and communities of Hawai‘i. Born and raised in Wailuku to Toshi and Ruth Ansai, Carol grew into one of Maui’s most influential real estate professionals and educators, shaping the island’s industry for more than four decades.
A graduate of H.P. Baldwin High School and the University of Michigan, Carol began her career in teaching before returning home to Maui, where she discovered her passion for real estate. In 1980, she founded the brokerage Carol Ball and Associates, which under her leadership, expanded across Maui and became one of Hawai‘i’s most respected residential real estate firms. In 2007, she founded the Carol Ball School of Real Estate, where as an instructor, author, curriculum developer, and mentor, she shaped and elevated the professional paths of countless real estate practitioners.
Carol served the State of Hawai‘i with distinction as a Hawai’i Real Estate Commissioner from 2004 to 2012, chairing the commission in her final year. Her community service was broad and heartfelt, spanning organizations such as Maui United Way, Hale Makua Health, and the American Heart Association.
Beyond her professional achievements, Carol was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Joerger, whom she deeply loved. She is survived by her children—Rachel Ball Phillips (Larry Phillips), J. Keone Ball (Amanda Cooper), and James Kimo Ball (Rosie Panzarello Ball), her beloved grandchildren Keana Ball (David Alan Kahaleauki), Julian Ball, Halia Ball, Austin Phillips, and Carter Phillips, her great-grandchildren Reia Ann Kahaleauki and Naia Rae Kahaleauki, and her sister Linda Hastings.
Carol’s life was grounded in service, shaped by gratitude for the island she called home, and marked by a steadfast belief in the power of education. Her influence endures through her students, colleagues, family, and the many lives she touched across Hawai‘i. She will be remembered for her compassion, her wisdom, and her unwavering commitment to doing what was right.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 18, 2025 from 2pm – 5pm at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center Yokouchi Pavillion, One Cameron Way, Kahului, HI 96732. The family kindly requests no flowers. Donations in Carol’s memory may be made directly to Kaunoa Senior Services Meals on Wheels, American Heart Association, and Na Hoaloha.
