

Danton Reed Kamakahoa Akuna, 84, of Makawao, Maui, was born on September 6, 1941 at Malulani Hospital in Wailuku. On November 8, 2025, he passed away at Maui Memorial Medical Center and reunited with his beloved wife, whom he lost to cancer in 2017.
Danton served in the Army and was a retired Heavy Equipment Mechanic at Ameron HC&D.
Danton is survived by his sons Danton (Lori) Akuna and Jarred (Chelsea Montalvo) Ramos; Daughters Sheri Akuna, Sue (Christopher) Grant, Sharon (Chris Mabe) Akuna, Stephanie (Rudy Kruse) Akuna-Freitas; Grandchildren Robert, Shelby, Karlee, Kaylie-Ming, Joshua, Ethan, Alia, Jayna, Krissa, Kaira, Ransom and Maliana; Great-grandson Rodney.
Danton was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marianne T Akuna, his daughter Sara Akuna and grandchildren Karlyn and Brian Akuna.
Danton was the youngest and one of the last surviving members of his large family. He is survived by his Sister-in-law Ellen (wife of Merle) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Helen Akuna; Siblings, Lionel (Anita), Kenneth, Beverly (Harry) Brown, Merle, Rose, Alaire, Joyce, Edward (Bertha), Danton K., Wanda and Laurel.
Danton will always be remembered for his love and dedication to his family and his unwavering work ethic. He always stressed the importance of family, hard work, self-reliance and independence.
The legacy he leaves behind is one of kindness, integrity and a life lived with purpose and the values he instilled in his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Ballards Family Mortuary. Viewing from 8:00-9:30 AM ; Service 9:30 AM with Burial to follow at 1:00 PM at Veterans Cemetery, Makawao.
