Edwin and his older brother, Donald, grew up in Waikiki, where Edwin's love for the ocean began. He spent much of his childhood from sun-up to sun-down on the beaches of Waikiki and became an avid surfer, canoe paddler, diver, and sailor.
Edwin graduated from Maryknoll High School in 1957, and after graduating, he enrolled in the army reserves and was stationed in Fort Gordon, Georgia. After returning to Honolulu, he welcomed his daughter Robin and son Robert into the world. In 1959 he began his career with Hawaiian Telephone Company as an installer. He worked his way up to troubleshooter, then eventually into the safety division of the company. He met his wife of 42 years, Olivia, at the phone company. He, Olivia, and her three daughters, Yolanda, Roxanne, and Rochelle, moved to Maui in 1976, where he worked for the remainder of his career. He retired in 1992 as the Safety Supervisor for the island.
Edwin spent his retired years giving his time and knowledge to those around him, guiding and teaching his grandchildren his many skills and talents, being a Rodeo Announcer, tending to his cattle, helping on Diamond B Ranch, playing music, and running his tractor. He led the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph and was often found assisting with church functions, from making malasadas and being the Auctioneer at the feast, to joining the parish council and spreading the knowledge of St. Damien that was close to his heart.
Edwin was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, friend, and mentor. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Olivia.
