On January 29, 2024 at 8:07 p.m. My husband, James Kawika Prest 58 of Hana, Maui took his last breath on earth and his first breath in Heaven. Born in Wailuku, Maui he is survived by his wife, Michelle Prest of Hana, Maui. Three Sons, Tyson (Ty) of Wailuku, Bryson (Bubba) of Kahului and Kyson (Bula) of Oahu. Siblings, Allen Prest of Wailuku, Brenda Prest-Joao (John) of Wailuku, Albert Bayong (deceased), Stacey Malaki (Leo) of Utah, Jon Prest of Kahului and Timothy Prest of Kihei. His three grandchildren of Wailuku are Justin Barrow-Prest, Kyreece Barrow-Prest and Royal Jones. Three Godchildren, Logan Prest of Wailuku, Heidi Medeiros of Kihei and Willsam Kapoi-Smith of Hana, Maui. He also has nine nieces and nephews. His parents Nancy and Allen Prest welcomed him to his heavenly home.
Kawika was employed as a Water Service Supervisor II Hana District, County of Maui Water Department and also was Water Systems operator for Hana WaterSystems at Hana Ranch.
Kawika loved God first and helped build the church where we will celebrate his Life at, Jesus is Alive on Haleakala Highway on March 9, 2024. 8am-9am for family, 9am-11am for friends, 11am-12pm service, followed by Kaukau and fellowship on the grounds of the church ( NO ALCOHOL PLEASE ). Cremation to follow and spreading of his ashes at Hamoa Beach in Hana, Maui will be announced at a later date.
He was often asked “What don’t you do?’ He did everything and anything for everyone. He loved his family, his church, his job, his friends, and his community and made so many life-long friends that he’d assist on the beach or the Hana Highway helping them when in distress. He would always say, “Jesus always looks at the heart” and Kawika’s heart was huge. He was also very passionate about the Reinstated Hawaiian Kingdom and was a great supporter. He loved his Valley Isle Vee Dubz friends and his cars and joining in with the gang on “runs”. He was also an avid and knowledgeable milk cap and bottle collector. However his great passion of cooking was hisforte and we hosted many meals and made many friendships along the way. He’d invite hotel guests, strangers, to our home on a whim and come home to cook for everyone. He rededicated his life to the Lord 9 years ago and there was no looking back for him. Our Sunday commute to our respective churches was non-negotiable, rain or shine. He was at his seat at church and loved his Pastors and church family, always helping when needed. He always read or listened to his bible app and praise and worship permeated our cars and home.
One of his favorite scriptures came from John 3:16 KJV “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” And James Kawika Prest was a strong believer.
