John Santos Sr.

John "Sonny" Santos, Sr., 77, of Kahului, passed away on February 18, at his home with Hospice Care and surrounded by his family. He was born March 8, 1934 in Paia, Maui. John worked as a Press Feed Operator at Maui Land and Pine for 36 years until his retirement in 1996. He was a referee for the MIL Basketball program for over 40 years and was part of the Puerto Rican Band Los Allegres. In his younger days, he was an avid billiards player and boxer and enjoyed diving and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Candy Santos of Kahului Florist; daughter, Michelle Santos; son, John Santos Jr. and his wife Capri Santos; grandchildren, Cade Bettancourt, Celise Santos and Jena Santos; brothers, Jules Santos, James Santos, Edward Santos of Honolulu; sisters, Maria Hamrick (Bud), Roseline Ribucan of Oahu and Violet Martinez (John) of California.

Services: Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Ballard Family Mortuary, Prayer Service at 11 a.m.; burial 2 p.m. at Maui Memorial Park, the Garden of Meditation. Family request aloha attire.
