Joseph Pires

Joseph "Sonny" Pires, 84, of Kula, passed away on January 21, 2011 at Hale Makua in Kahului. He was born March 29 1926 in Spreckelsville. Joseph was a veteran of the Merchant Marine/United States Coast Guard, and then retired as a Manager for Wackenhut Security Company. His hobbies included reading, gardening, and watching TV sports. Joseph is survived by his long-time companion, Betty M. De Lima; son, Manny Bill Pires; step-sons, Daniel (Lisa Montalvo) De Lima Sr., Steven (Nalani) De Lima; daughter, Anna Jean (Danny) McCarthy; step-daughters, Cindy (Joe Kanahuna) Phillips, Susan Gomes; granddaughter, Lynette (Joe) Ybarra, 11 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all the Staff at Kahului Hale Makua North Wing for their compassionate care, and support that they gave Joe throughout the month and a half of his residency there.

Services: Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Holy Ghost Church in Kula, mass at 11 a.m., burial 12:30 p.m. at the Maui Veteran's Cemetery in Makawao.
