Our beloved mother, grandmother, ohana and friend, Kathleen “Peachy” Mamo Bergau, age 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 2, 2025, at her home in Haʻikū, Maui, Hawaiʻi.
Kathy was born on January 5, 1946, in Wailuku, Maui, and lived her life surrounded by ʻohana, faith, and aloha. Kathy married the love of her life, Ephraim “Sonny” Kahele Bergau, Jr., on April 18, 1970, and together they raised a loving family built on strength, laughter, and the spirit of aloha.
Kathy was a woman of deep compassion, known for her open and kind heart, her welcoming home, and the quiet grace and strong spirit she carried through all seasons of life. Kathy found joy in her garden, in the company of her moʻopuna, and in sharing good food and warm conversation with family and friends. Her love for her ʻohana was unwavering, and her faith guided her every step.
Kathy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ephraim “Sonny” Kahele Bergau, Jr., her children Shauna (Shaunamay) Bergau, Ephraim Kahele Bergau III, and Keanu Robert Bergau, as well as her parents and siblings.
She is survived by her children:Rick (Lori) Ziegler, Lloyd (Donna) Bergau, Gail (Patrick) Bergau Matsui, Pamela Bergau, Deb “Pua” (Wendell, deceased) Jeremiah, Ka’ohuokalehua M. Bergau, Kuulei M. Bergau, and David (Tammi) Troy Lopaka Bergau.
She is also blessed with 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and hānai family who will forever carry her aloha in their hearts.
Service Information:
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held on Maui at Ballard Family Mortuary on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm with service to start at 7:00pm. Burial will take place on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Maui Veterans' Cemetery in Makawao at 10:30am. Family and friends will be invited to join in remembrance, prayer, and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes prayers, fond memories, and acts of kindness offered in Kathy’s name.
