Kathy was born on January 16, 1955, in Long Beach, California to Raymond and Thelma Dolim. She graduated from St. Anthony High School Maui in 1972.
In 1973, Kathleen Marie Dolim married Edward John Farias and together they lived across the country while Ed served in the United States Navy. They resided in Idaho Falls, Norfolk, San Diego, and Oahu until they set roots down in beautiful Makawao, Maui, in 1992, surrounded by family and friends while Ed finished his career in the Navy and retired in 1995. Kathy's greatest love was her family. She was an exceptional wife and mother. She devoted her life to her children; James (Fiona) Farias, Laurie (Teddy) Acpal, Michael (Ashley) Farias, and Daniel Farias. She was blessed to have ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Kathy's hands were rarely still. She loved the challenge of creating beautiful things. She excelled in the art of sewing, which she continued to work at for the rest of her life. Her Singer sewing machines were part of the furniture in her home. She prided herself in being a perfectionist as a seamstress, sewing her own wedding gown, christening gowns, prom dresses for her daughter and friends, and so much more. She had a great eye for the quality of the cut, a well-finished seam, a covered button, a concealed zipper, the correct positioning of pin tucks and darts, the flare of a box pleat, the precision of intricate beading, turning a collar, cutting, pressing, letting out, and taking up. The lengths of her creativity didn't stop there. Kathy handmade beautiful holiday decorations, painted ceramics, and loved many variations of needlework including cross -stitching, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and embroidery. She could do it all and she made the world beautiful by sharing her gift and passion for crafting.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the support and care provided by Hale Makua Adult Day Health and Maui Memorial Medical Center. She will be missed by so many. The family would also like to thank Hospice Maui for the remarkable care and compassion they provided in her last days and hours to make her transition a peaceful one.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Ballard Family Mortuary with public visitation at 9:00, service at 11:00, and burial to follow at Maui Memorial Park.
Please join us in remembering and celebrating the life of Kathy Farias.
May her soul rest in peace.
