He was in the US Army, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma from 1966 to 1968, where he finished his tour as a decorated Army Sergeant. After the Army, he and wife Jane (Apple) returned to Gary where Larry worked for a short time at US Steel. Soon after, he pursued a career as a sales professional and worked in the Insurance industry for some time, print and newspaper advertising and, in his final days, as an agent for the Maui Solar Project.
