Aunty Susie will be missed by so many people. She was such a caring and giving person who was always there to help those in need. I remember the many summers growing up in Hawaii and traveling to Kula with our family to visit.  We had fun with a wide range of activities, from feeding the pigs, riding horses, and picking wild blackberries throughout the many pastures in Kula.   At the end of the day, she would have a great feast set up in the kitchen to make sure everyone was fed and feeling happy==which was not a challenge especially when she brought out the fresh-baked blackberry cobbler (to this day still my favorite dessert).  Thank you Aunty Susie for all the great memories and lessons taught without realizing at the time how lucky we all were to have you (and Uncle Richard) in our lives.   God Bless you and the entire De Coite family.

Auntie Susie was a beacon of light in my life, and long after I left Maui. She became like a substitute mom, even though she was not that much older than me then.

She was also a child whisperer, especially with my son whom she cherished. She would wrap him up in her arms and all his worries would melt. As the years have gone by, he still remembers her caring ways, big laugh and oh so ono grinds!

I’m so very lucky to have known and loved such a remarkable woman, and still love her children and dearly departed husband. Just a beautiful family in every way.

Gods plan and our plans are often not the same but his is always the best.

Mark and I were very blessed to be invited to Makawao in March, 2023. What an amazing privilege and blessing to meet Susie and the caring, crazy, fun-loving, food-making family, in person. 

We were welcomed with open arms,, literally hundreds of them. Actually it was more of an initiation into the love and craziness of this clan (after all we are Hoolies aka Haoles). 

We learned of Susies love for family, cooking, horses, soccer, tennis…Wow! Clearly not one to sit still very long. Her cheeky sense of humor made us laugh. I would contribute that, as part of her role in the families love of laughter. In her last days, when asked if she wanted to go riding, she said “sure”, I would ride Blackie and she would ride Cobalt; to which she replied, “Cobalt’s dead, I guess we’re not riding today” and gave her little smirk of a smile, shoulders shaking in silent laughter.

There is no denying the love that emanates from their family, a beautiful tribute of the foundation laid by Susie and Richard. Our hearts and love go out to Nan, Sandy, Donald and their families.

Although our time together was short we are forever grateful and you will be dearly missed.

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Margaret "Susie"?
            
            A: As far back as I can remember, everytime I went to a family reunion, wedding, or celebration of life, I would see Aunty Susie in the kitchen. Her love for family showed in the  prepping, making, and packaging of those foods. I would go into the kitchen, not to bother, not to eat, but to give a honi and hug as she worked hard in the kitchen. That was her way of helping whether or not the food was catered or cooked by her. When she did rest she stayed close to that kitchen so those were the times I could get my chance to sit with her and talk but the minute there was a need in the kitchen she would excuse herself to go back in and work. Aunty Susie, Our Lord has prepared a kitchen for you as He knows you love loving on people through your service of food. I wish this niece of yours spent more time with you, other than major events. I was Sandy’s roommate in our freshman year at Chaminade in 1985.  I had the privilege of joining the family to spend Christmas in their beautiful Makawao home. She was a loving mother and wife who treated everyone with a loving but firm hand. Coming from Micronesia, it was my first time to see a horse let alone ride one so she told us to have fun and be careful. Whenever I smell pine trees, it always reminds me of her cooking. May she rest in peace in God’s loving hands. Heartfelt condolences from the Silbanuz family to Sandy, her siblings, their children, and all family and friends.

My second older sister , we grew up in lower Kula on a small ranch with horses cattle dogs cats chickens ducks turkeys around.. What a wonderful life we had..I will always remember riding anywhere we wanted..The beach house and swimming down there..Water skiing ..All of us. Bill Judy Susie Pam and I..We miss you but the memories live on..Your girls and family took such good care of you..Bless them all..Rest in Love Sis.
