
Marie Adams McDonald, 92 of Pu’ukapu, Waimea, Hawaii Island died Sunday, August 4, 2019 at home. She was born at Waikele, fifth child of ten children to John Quincy Adams, Sr. and Etelka Mahoe Adams on October 13, 1926.
She was retired from the Department of Parks and Recreation, City and County of Honolulu and the Department of Education at Kohala High School. She was a Hawaiian homestead flower grower established Honopua Farm in 1978, a published author of Ka Lei, the Leis of Hawaii and Na Lei Makamae (with Paul Weissich). Marie earned much recognition for her work with leis and kapa, honored by the City of Honolulu, the State of Hawaii, the Honpa Honganji, OHA, Mamo, Hawaii Arts Alliance, and the Smithsonian Institution. As an educator endeavoring to foster their creative potential, she is fondly remembered by her many students and colleagues.

Marie was the wife of the late William McDonald and mother of the late David McDonald. Survived by daughters Roen Hufford (Ken) and Susan Olsen (Larry), grandchildren Kaohai, Amy, Jeni, Joseph, Joshua, Victoria and Lehuanani, eight great grandchildren, bother Michael Adams (Beverly) of Maui, sister-in-laws Sylvia Adams of Molokai and Winona Adams of Waikoloa, numerous nieces and nephews.
