Kako was a Merchant Marine in WWII, and retired as a police officer from the Maui Police Department in 1974.
He was predeceased by his son, Carl E. Medeiros; survived by his wife of 67 years, Cyrilla P. Medeiros; son, Donald A. (Peggy) Medeiros; grandchildren, Lisa Medeiros, Nani Medeiros, Sunny Medeiros, Liyan Medeiros, Erin (Duane) Sparkman; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; sister, Norma Pendelton; and brothers, James (Dorothy) Medeiros; and Stanley Medeiros.
