October 3, 2025 under the care of Hospice Maui. She was born on
January 24, 1944 to Jay and Marjorie Atteberry in Hawthorne,
California.
Sandy was a born adventurer whose curiosity and courage carried
her far beyond the ordinary. Right out of high school in the 1960s,
she set off across Africa with little more than a backpack and a
sense of wonder, hitchhiking her way through landscapes and
cultures that shaped her lifelong love of exploration.
In the years that followed, Sandy crewed on transpacific sailboat
voyages, crossing vast oceans and forming lifelong friendships along
the way. She married Mike Mociun in 1964, and welcomed their
beloved son, Chase, in 1982. Sometime in the 70’s she accepted
Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and remained a faithful follower
the rest of her life.
In 1990, Sandy married Richard Archer, her loving partner for 35
years. Together they built a life full of laughter, travel, and deep
companionship. They settled on Maui in 1994, where Sandy found
her paradise — a place that reflected her free spirit, love of nature,
and joy in life’s simple beauty.
Sandy will be remembered for her boundless curiosity, fearless heart,
and generous soul. Whether she was sailing the open sea, exploring
a new trail, or enjoying a beach chair, a good book and a cold beer
on a Maui beach. She embraced life with a rare and radiant spirit.
She is survived by Richard Archer, husband, Chase Mociun, son,
Aloha Mociun, daughter-in-law, Ailani and Keyna Mociun,
granddaughters
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at
