“A grandfather is someone with silver in his hair and gold in his heart.”Author Unknown
On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, Segis Mundo Basbas, Junior loving husband and father of five children, passed away at the age of 80.From Marcialʻs journal dated, Thursday May 24, 2018:Work is an eternal principle not only a commandment. Jesus said, “My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.” (John 5:17). He also said, “I must work the works of him that sent me.” (John 9:4). President Dieter Uchtdorf said that “…the Lord loves the laborer! He said, “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread.” (Genesis 3:19) and “The Laborer is worthy of his hire.” (D&C 31:5).My husband is a great example of the principle of work. This is one of the special qualities I admire in him. He has worked since he was 12 years old. He gives one hundred percent when he is working. There have been years that he was not sick, however, when he was, he would get back to work as soon as he could. He has never been late to work. He learned this from his parents. Both were hard working. Our children followed in his footsteps. He is an early bird. I am a night owl. What I have learned from him is to be on time. He wants to be an hour early in everything, which for me is good because you can take the time to relax before the meeting starts and be ready when it is. “Don’t procrastinate, get things done now” is his motto. He feels good that he can work and provide for his family. He is not an idler. He is always looking for things to do. And he has his leisure time too. He is a golfer. He has won State and local golfing tournaments. One year he won the Governor’s Trophy. He is not just a weekend golfer as some people thought he was until they see him in action. He practiced every day. I remember those days. Hard work and practice paid off for him. My husband has been a dedicated employee, a champion golfer and especially a great example of the principle of work, and a father showing his children in his own way that hard work matters. My husband definitely, “…wears the garments of the laborer.” (D&C 42:42).
