Travis Lee Werner, 77, Journeymen Electrician of Hilo, passed away on July 22, 2017 at Hilo Medical Center. Travis was born in Roswell, New Mexico on November 28, 1939. He previously lived in Oregon, Alaska and Molokai. Travis was a four-year Navy Veteran. He was always very physically active. For many years, he flew private airplanes, played senior softball and paddled outrigger canoes. He was also a farmer with livestock, fruit orchard and vegetable garden. He kept life simple with farm to table food, living off the grid, and had an affordable solar panel system company. Having a deep love and respect for the ocean, he was a long-time paddler and fisherman.
Travis was kind, positive and helpful. This strong man seemed able to lift a six-man canoe by himself, but he was gentle as a lamb with his wife Jackie. Travis was an inspiring, tender and generous man. He touched many people. He made everyone feel special and was fun to be around. In his warmth and caring, we all found a beautiful friend. We will miss him always.
He lived doing the things he loved and was with the people he cared for most. He is survived by his wife; Sylvia “Jackie” Werner, sons; Scott Werner of Missouri, John Werner of Hilo, and his brother; Chris Werner of Maui.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, August 20th, 2017 at Keaukaha Canoe Club (Hilo Bay Front) 1:00PM. Potluck.
Arrangements entrusted to Ballard Family Mortuary- Hilo.
