It is with deep love and respect that we announce the passing of William Keith Atkinson, proud United States Navy veteran and retired corrections officer, on August 14, 2026, at the age of 69.
Born in Pensacola, Florida, on June 16, 1957, William grew up with a strong sense of duty, integrity, and service. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served honorably for six years. During his time in the Navy, William embodied courage, commitment, and camaraderie—values that shaped his life and forged lifelong friendships. He served his country with pride, protecting the freedoms we hold dear.
After completing his military service, William used his GI Bill benefits to attend the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, where he earned a degree in Criminology. He then entered the Honolulu Police Academy and served in the Waikīkī area of O‘ahu, continuing his dedication to public safety and community service.
William later joined the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at the Maui Community Correctional Center, where he dedicated over 32 years of service. He spent more than 25 of those years as a Sergeant and retired in 2025. William was known for his unwavering dedication, strong work ethic, and unforgettable humor that could brighten even the toughest days. His ability to make people laugh and his unique way with words will be deeply missed.
Beyond his professional life, William was a devoted husband and a loving caretaker to his cherished canine companions—Ginger, Sadie, Honey, and Tootsie. He found joy in cheering on his favorite sports teams, the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Chargers, and he had a lifelong passion for professional wrestling. His wit, humor, and warm presence touched everyone who knew him.
William is survived by his wife, Paula Rivera, and is preceded in death by his parents, William Edward and Marion Julian Atkinson, and his brother, Kenneth Atkinson.
