Samuel Philip Gingrich, a dedicated physician on the Big Island, passed away peacefully at home on November 8, 2025. He was born May 19, 1940, in Akron, Ohio, to Raymond and Edith Gingrich, a Brethren minister and his mother, a school teacher.
He attended Wheaton College in Illinois and Baylor Medical College in Houston, Texas. He then joined the U.S. Navy and graduated from Submarine and Medical School. He was proud to have been the Chief Medical Officer aboard the U.S.S. Mariano G. Vallejo (SSBN568). He was board certified in Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, and Diving Medicine.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Gingrich, and his step-daughter, Julie Keller, both of Kamuela. His Celebration of Life will be held January 6, 2026, at Kahilu Town Hall, in Kamuela, Hawaii. Visitation at 2:30 p.m. Service at 4:00 p.m. Sharing of memories to follow.
