Holly, I have watched your videos several times and I felt like you and Dave were my next door neighbors.. I tell you the truth , your message and his sweet smile will help many, many wives and families in the future. I cry today for your loss, may God bless you for your kindness..

Although David passed away six months ago I have finally got around to passing on my regrets to all his family members. I first met him in 1968 when I was playing with the Meralomas 1st XV and he was with Dick Layzell's Under 19 team. A few years later he was on the 1st team because of his scrummaging skills, mobility and excellent jumping in the lineout. When he was a member of the strong UBC teams he attracted the attention of the Canada selectors and was capped for Canada three times in 1977.
After he moved to Kamloops, I only saw him a few times but when I did we shared many good memories, including his days with the Meralomas, UBC, the memorable 1973 Meraloma tour to England and Wales and our respective teaching experiences. I was not able to attend the service in May, as I had hoped but would imagine many people who David touched would be there. During my time with him he was such a kind man.

Dear Holly and Family - We Kamloops Carvers shared an evening of memories about Dave last night. I can't believe that it has been 27 years since I first met Dave. Time has flown by! My first impression, as I craned my neck upwards, was his height, but in the years since I found that he was a big man in every respect.
   As I listened to descriptions of the many friendships he made I was struck by how many others were also impressed by his easy manner, his ever present genuine smile, and his sense of humor, all qualities that made him a favourite amongst his students and colleagues. He had an enthusiasm for life and people that was contagious.
   Please accept our condolences on your loss of such an irreplaceable man. We all share the loss of a friend who set the bar high in dealing with life and the leaving of wonderful memories.

Our sympathies go out to you at your loss of Dave. He was such a gentle and happy person. His enthusiasm for his family, his work and everyone in his life was always evident, and infectious. Dave was a great friend and colleague. There will always be a place for his memory and his family in our hearts.

Dave was a very special person and wonderful friend,

I first met him in 1973 when we both played rugby for Meralomas and went on tour to England on the 50th Anniversary Tour.

Tommy Ollis and I rented a house together with Dave on East 36th that year.  I will always treasure his friendship, his great sense of humour , and his mischievous sense of fun.  We had manny a great party together at that house!

As I write this message, I am looking at Dave's carving of a merganser which he did at my request in 1996. Dave was a very dedicated teacher and a very special person.  His unconditional acceptance of others and his positive support were outstanding qualities.  He touched the future and has made a significant difference.  May his family find comfort in the good memories.
