Ruth Rickwood Aug 31, 1934-Oct 11, 2020

Ruth passed away peacefully at home in her sleep. Ruth had a soft spot in her heart for all animals. She was an avid dog enthusiast who raised, trained and competed around the world with her 17 German Shepherds she had throughout her life, winning countless titles and awards. Ruth will be dearly missed by all those who have had the privilege of getting to know her amazing spirit and infectious laugh. We will all carry a piece of her in our hearts forever.

Ruth you have been a very dear friend for many years and you will never be forgotten. Tige will share your journey home with you as this is where he would rather be. Home with his Mom.

Ruth has been a wonderful friend of ours since 2004 when I accompanied her and Max (her German Shepherd) and her cat to her new home in England. She asked me to help her with the process of flying her dog and cat into the U.K. which is quite complicated. She knew that I had done this right after the quarantine regulations had been changed in 2002. We had a great flight over with no complications and I met her whole family, which was a joy and an experience in itself. A year later I brought her back to Kamloops on my way back from the World Sheep dog Championship in Tullamore, Ireland. I will never forget those totally enjoyable flights. The time flew as our conversations were many and the laughter was intense. We remained friends until the end which came as a sudden shock as both Nancy and I felt that Ruth was infallable and healthy as a horse. She bought lamb from us for all these years and I'm sure Max and Tag got at least half of it. She is irreplacable as a friend and a person. She was a joy to be with and an example of humankind to be cherished. We miss her. God is with her and so are her animal friends. She is at peace.

Ruth was born in Ilkley in Wharfedale Yorkshire. Her father was a butcher and they left Ilkly after the Second World War to be proprietors of the Grosvenor hotel in Scarborough. Is my second cousin, I knew Ruth and her mother very well she was always the life and soul and said what she felt,

Dogs and animals were her life, and her intention to move back to Scarborough in the next 12 months was a beautiful dream that she had and could’ve realised.

She loved Canada and the area where she lived. He remains will be brought back to the Yorkshire that she lived and she will be with her whole family including mine in a very special place.

Ruth
would’ve been proud of all her dear friends in how they are dealing with her affairs and ensuring that her last wishes were honoured.

Thank you, you know who you are x

I remember Ruth as being very kind and helpful. She had a generous nature and was someone never to forget. Her dog was her great love with her cats a close second. Ruth was a remarkably good cook and never short of a word. Sadly through passing away in her sleep her ambition of returning to Yorkshire has been denied her.
