Joyce and Mike DeVooght were a truly wonderful, unique couple that I have been honoured to have been friends with for many years.

Joyce was the most open and curious person.  She always wanted to learn more and about all things new to her.  This curious nature made her a fun and ageless friend, always game to try new food, read about something unfamiliar to her, learn more about the body and health or discuss RMT techniques and issues.  It made her an ageless personality and maybe thats why we were able to form such a deep personal and professional friendship despite the fact I am the age of her children.

I met her husband Mike before I met Joyce.  More proof, of course, of the unusual nature of this interesting couple - he was at the Intro to Massage Therapy course I attended at WCCMT before enrolling in the college.  Joyce had already completed her first year there and he was learning the ‘basics’ to support her, understand her studies better and be able to hopefully give her some amateur but helpful massages.

The unusual nature of this couple just continued the more one got to know them.  The challenges they had been through and managed to come out the other side with their cheerful positive natures, was downright inspirational.  They have been and always will be exceedingly dear and special to me.

Over the years Mike became a close friend as well, full of interesting stories of the backcountry adventures of his youth.  The two of them were an impressive team.   One time, when I was particularly strapped with a difficult home move, they showed up with buckets and cleaning supplies, plus more buckets of love, support and energy beyond their years!  Friends just don’t get better than this. I will miss them now, always.
