Ron passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC, at the age of 79. During his final days, he was comforted by the presence and care of his loved ones.
Born on January 5, 1947, in Vanderhoof, BC, Ron’s early life spanned borders and cultures. His childhood took him from Ecuador to the Nickel Plate Mine near Hedley, with a brief stay in Yellowknife, before he spent his teenage years in Monterrey, Mexico. He later returned to Canada to attend UBC. These experiences shaped his curiosity and his deep respect for people from all walks of life.
Ron loved animals and gardening and was known for his sharp wit and distinctive sense of humor. Even during difficult times, he had a natural ability to make others smile and brighten their day. He held on to his wit and was cracking jokes right to the end.
He enjoyed coming up with nicknames, a small meaningful way he showed affection. Those names like Punkin, Princess, Niffer, Zeke, Sweets, Munchkin, and Mini will be fondly remembered bringing back treasured memories of Ron for those who received them.
Many knew Ron as the owner of Frank’s Magazines in Sahali Mall during the 1970s and 1980s. He later held leadership roles at the Great Canadian Casino and Convergys, where he was respected as a caring manager and mentor.
Ron’s daily coffee at Starbucks was more than a routine. In retirement, it became a place of connection—where he listened, shared stories, and used humor to brighten people’s days. He will be dearly missed by his Starbucks family.
Ron is survived by his children Steven Eriksen (children Hayley and Skyler), Jennifer Williams, Nicholas Williams (Christina Williams; children Hunter and Lydia), and Terri Soltys, whom he loved and thought of as a daughter (children Abigail and Cash). He is also survived by his brother George Williams, his sister Patricia Ehlbeck, their families, and his close friend Karen Soltys. He was predeceased by his parents, Camie and Dibs Williams.
Ron will be forever remembered. Please share your stories and memories with us.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Kamloops on June 13, 2026, location to be determined.
