It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Hay (nee Popoff) on April 15, 2026 at the age of 77.
Shirley is survived and missed dearly by her husband Rick and their two children, Tammy and Russ, and grandchildren Ryan, Hunter, and Mylah.
She was a loving, kind, and devoted wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend. Her grandchildren were very precious to her. She fiercely loved each of them. She loved to cook for her family and her happiest times were when they were around. She loved being a grandma and cherished all the hugs and kisses. She was a great storyteller, enjoyed writing poems, and was known for her long phone chats.
Shirley and Rick were married in 1968 and celebrated 58 wonderful years of marriage. They raised their two children while building their dream home in Rayleigh. Some of her fondest memories were travelling to Europe for their 50th anniversary, a cruise to Alaska and camping in their "'lil trailer." Their dream came true when they found their cabin in 1988 on East Barriere Lake. There they spent and shared many wonderful times with family and friends.
Celebration of life will be held on May 16th at the Heritage House at Riverside Park between 1-3pm.
Goodbyes are not forever,
Goodbyes are not the end.
They simply mean "I'll miss you,"
Until we meet again.
