She was born on September 26, 1923, to Francis & Jane Leandro in Haiku, Maui, Hawaii.
Ann attended St. Anthony School in Wailuku, Maui. She transferred to Sacred Hearts Academy in Honolulu for her junior and senior years, graduating in the class of 1940. Upon graduation she attended nursing school at St. Francis Hospital. She then worked as a registered nurse at St. Francis for 44 years until her retirement in 1988. She loved her alma mater Sacred Hearts Academy and served as a volunteer for the school from 1988 to 2020.
Ann met the love of her life, Edward (Eddie) Silva Mello in 1940 at a St. Louis High School social. It was a roller-skating party and Ann fondly recalled how impressed she was with Eddie's skating skills. They were married in 1944 and remained together until Eddie's passing in 2007. They welcomed their only child, Byron Edward Mello, into the world on July 2, 1962. They waited 18 years for Byron's arrival.
Ann was a lifelong Catholic who loved our Lord Jesus Christ and worshiped him faithfully. She walked her faith with a strong love for her family & friends, her ability to make others feel cherished, her appreciation of beauty and her love of life. We will hold onto memories of her working in the yard, walking peacefully through Manoa Valley, playing cards and board games at the table with friends and laughing joyfully with them. She will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
Ann is survived by her son Byron and his wife Rita, granddaughters Vanessa & Noelle Mello, sisters Veronica Vierra, Laurina Perry & Sister Jane Francis, many nieces & nephews. Ann was preceded in death by her husband Edward, sister Mary Caires and brothers Frank, Andrew and Vincent Leandro.
A celebration of Ann's life will be held at 10am on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Sacred Hearts Academy School Chapel in Kaimuki. Burial will be held at 1pm at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe.
