May your soul Rest In Peace Lu.  We remember you Lewis when you came to visit your grandparents in Faleasao and always with that big smile on your face.  You may be gone to be with our Heavenly Father but the memories will always be with us.  Rest In Peace Lewis Leovao and we love you.  Condolences to both families.

Dave was one of a kind. He was generous and kind. He was a great man who seemed so sure of himself, he was a gentle man, no matter the situation. His legacy will never be forgotten. 

Aloha David, We miss you every day. It's hard not having you here because you are such a bright light to so many of us. We love and appreciate your presence in our lives. You are a true friend in every sense. Your kindness, thoughtfulness, willingness to help and of course your sense of humour is sorely missed. David, I am one of your younger cousins, Pomaao. My mom Siga is your dad(Foto, RIP) younger sister which makes us first cousins. I learned about your passing through my mom and I was deeply saddened to see my mom emotional as she started reminiscing about the past. Although we’ve never met in person, I do wish we had because the memories my mom has shared with me of you sounded like you were a pretty amazing person.  I am praying for your wife & children. I can only imagine what they are going through facing this tragedy of losing you. God be with your loved ones through this difficult time of grievance and may they have courage and strength to continue life without you physically here but in spirit now. 

We go way back cuzz. I remember meeting you for the first time in Hawaii when your parents flew me out for one summer. You were always big strong and tough. Man I can’t believe you’re gone. Watched you played football and we got to as well for a little bit in HS. Love you so much and will miss you tons. 

 I vaguely remember meeting you way back then in Tutuila but I do remember that you favor Uncle Foto quite much….. actually A WHOLE LOT! I also remember you have his BEAUTIFUL smile. I’m saddened to see that you have passed on dear cousin. I will keep your wife and kids in my thoughts and prayers throughout the days to come. So much love from me and mine. It was so sad that you’re gone. The last time we met was at your dad’s funeral in Am. Samoa in 2014. In 1981, I was with you and your parents, Foto and Siaoloau in Hawaii. Your dad was in the navy, stationed at the navy base, call barbers point. You was only 1 year old. In 1985, David’s parents moved to another navy base, call treasure island in San Francisco. David was only 5 yrs old. I took him to school when parents worked.  I lost contact from my nephew since his parents divorced. David is my brother Foto Levao only child ever since he left this world. David is quiet, smart and love his family. He was a veteran, and he earned his MBA. You will be miss by all your aunts and uncles and families on your dad’s side, the Levaos. We always love you. I am shocked to hear about your passing. You were truly a good friend and brother. We always had a good conversation and arguments. You were truly special. I can never forget you. I wished we had more time together. I will miss you brother.

I met David at the University of Oregon when he was roommates with my friend, Michael.  We joked around that he could break my skinny, thin Japanese friend in half.  David just laughed and said "I'm a lover, not a fighter".  To me, that just spoke volumes about how good a person he was.  He could take a local Hawaii joke and still show how witty and charming he was, all in one sentence.  

Even though we disagreed on issues relating to home, like the TMT or sovereignty, he never got mad and always kept good humor with his words.  If anything, I'll miss that sense of ease that he made people feel around him yet the same sense of just the right pressure in his care for you, as a person and as a friend.  I regret not introducing my friend to my family, because I know my kids would just be in awe of such a giant of a man, but my life is enriched by having been able to call him a friend.

I could call David randomly with questions that I'd have and I can't think of a time he never picked up. Never saw him mad or angry during the time I knew him.
