Dear Raymond, Katherine and Gilbert,

I’m sorry for your loss. I was stunned to find  out when his phone number was disconnected and read about his passing. 
Edmund was my first closest friend, having moved from Honolulu, age 7, and adjusting to a new school Kaneohe elementary. I will always cherished fond memories of dominating tetherball play with him during recess. Then chess play in Mr. Kosaka’s class as we advanced to 5-6th grade. Although we both took different paths, he stayed in Hawaii I moved to Oregon, we kept on touch by phone. 
When I did return to visit family. We would always play a round of golf or just have pupus and beer at koolau golf course. 
He told me about his struggles with RA and that doctors weren’t optimistic. I know he was in a lot of pain but never once expressed it to me. Edmund was not only a highly intelligent, successful, very loyal and kind (in his own way) friend. In the end, my admiration for him was his strength to persevere years of pain with RA. 
I will forever remember Edmunds friendship all the days of my life.
