I was thinking about my Uncle George tonight and searched the internet hoping to find his telephone number that I had lost. In doing so, I saw his obituary. Then, I discovered that my cousin Georgie Boy had also passed away recently.  I am so saddened to hear this. I would love to hear from my Hawaiian family when the time is right: (601) 720-1943. My deepest sympathy to the family during this trying time. God bless! 

It’s been a wild past few weeks, with battling my emotions of mourning our beloved Papa McCumber! More so, the distance apart from family broke my heart. But like my papa who paved the path on teaching us lessons. His passing brought clarity to what Papas legacy looked like. Which was what a solid family looks like; family that we longed to hold, to embrace, to cry with, to be happy with, to create memories with! Living away for the past year, has been such a reviving year for us & Our Papa was so proud of that journey & encouraged us along the way. I’ll def miss those calls from him, even when yelling on the phone was all that i could do. He still didn’t understand me. As papa would say, “ahh I cannot hear dis girl.” Our papa, who was as sharp as a diamond & jagged as a razor cultivated a life that touched us in so many ways! From the days of growing up on kenela street. Those memories will be treasured. Although, I wish I could meet u Papa back in the patio on your thrown desk chair... talking about everything & anything. I know God gained an angel, & your with nana & uncle George. I miss you so much but all the good times trump my emotions. I always told myself live life with no regrets & best believe I made sure you knew how much I loved you. I would tell you that about 10 times before I ever left u. Papa, you are a solid reflection of what strength looks like. I’m so happy that I got to surprise you the last two visits when we came home. The look in your eyes couldn’t measure up to no amount of riches in this life. Just being in your presence was a blessing! That’s all that matters. The last time I saw you, I held myself together bcuz I knew I would of been in pieces. But you looked like a champ! You are forever in my heart. Riding & Rising thru life together is what family is all about. I wouldn’t want anyone else better, then the MCCUMBER GANG. PAPA we love you beyond this life.  And when the night is new. I'll be looking at the moon But I'll be seeing you.

I'll always remember that special smile, that caring heart, that warm embrace you always gave. You were always there when we needed you, no matter what. Thank you for loving me and my family. We'll always remember you Gramps! You're in our hearts always.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be so He put His arms around you and whispered "come to Me."  With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away and although we love you dearly we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best!! We love you Grampa!

My dad will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart.  Even though he is gone, his memories will forever be precious and dear to me.

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to see you and say goodbye, but just know how much you really meant to me and my family.

To my Dad,

I would like to express my feelings as I have many times before on what my heart is about to tell you. 

You were the one who taught me that you could do anything if you just put your mind to it and try it.  I remember working in the yard with you digging trenches, building extensions, carpentry, masonry, electrical, and plumbing.  You did it all.  Thats where I got my mindset, that nothings to hard but to just do it.  I loved it and perfected it.  I remember going to the hardware stores with you to pick up materials to either fix or build something around the house.  I remember lifting weights with you when I was very young.  These weights were the plastic cement ones, when you tapped it together cement would fall in your eyes.  I remember riding my moped and getting pulled over by the police officers.  They asked me my name and I said James McCumber.  They closed their books and said take your moped home.  This went on for another 8 or 9 times, until one of the officer took me in and had you Dad come to the police station to pick me up.  I learned from that point on...I also remember working with you at Kuapa Isle for 6 years.  You were the Chief of security and I was the maintenance technician.  We shared so many great memories together, that I will always remember, cherish, and think about.  

Lastly, Dad, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart, for taking so good care of me from day one.  I know I'm so very fortunate in having you and Mom in my life.  I will always be so grateful...I also appreciate and thank you, for your love and support you've aways given my wife Barbie and family.  I've always thank the good lord in having such a special Father like you.  My family and I will miss you dearly.  We'll talk to you every day Dad, but until we meet again, know that we will never forget about you and will never stop loving you.

We all have very special memories of you and it'll always bring a smile to our face.
I remember at Jordan's Graduation party you sat at your table as everyone and anyone went to greet you, a friend of mine came to me and said "Laurie, who is that, he is like a GOD with everyone greeting him, I want to meet him too"  I said yup that sure is, he's my Papa.
How I wish I  could have you back for just a little while more.  You always meant so very much and always will do too.  I still can't get over the fact that you're no longer here but you will forever be in my heart.

When I was a little boy of 5 years old I would watch you come down kenela street on your police motorcycle I would always run inside my house afraid.Thirty five years later as a grown man I shook your hand and ask to marry your daughter.Thank you for excepting me in your family.I have been blessed to know you.

 HPD  Officer👮 George E McCumber, Senior Dedicated - Honorable- Compassionate-Sincere-Thoughtful and Kind                                 We first met when I was on a date,  we just finished racing down the Likelike and was parked at a favorite hang out Wendy’s , having a snack celebrating a win, when an officer knocked on the window and said “ It is after midnight young man.  I suggest you finish eating, cuddling and take the young lady home, apologize to her mother and no more racing tonight, son. “Yes sir” was my dates reply , Wow 😲 how did he know? What a really nice officer, I said. My date  smiled and said Yeah  “He’s My Dad”.                             “A Loving Father”.          Our last goodbye a few days before he passed .  He looked into my eyes with so much sorrow said “My son is gone,  I know dad, please don’t cry he is in our hearts and with God” he said OK  and said “I always loved you sweetheart,  I know Dad.  I will always loved you and Nana to”   I will always remember these words of Wisdom from my father-in-law  “Have Honor in all that you do and Always  do your Best“                              I love and miss you dad ❤️💋❤️

I say goodbye to one of the most influential person in my life. Gentleness and kindness sum up my Grandpa to the very core.

I was 5 years old when I moved into his home, he was my father, the man that raised me; the strongest man that I knew.  There are no words to express his influence in my life.  It is through his example that I am who I am today. He was someone I looked up to, someone I followed, someone I admire, someone I’m proud of and someone I brag about, someone to learn from and someone to respect, someone to listen to and someone to talk to, someone to try and impress, sometimes rebel against, and, someone, most of all, with whom to share everything this wonderful life has to offer.

Although I miss him, his smile, his pranks, his love, I take consolation in the good feelings of our memories and his legacy and lessons will endure.

I love you Grandpa!  And I will miss you… Until we meet again…..!



My Dad was my Hero.  He was Wise, Intelligent and Knowledgeable. When I was in Elementary School,  I would always ask him how to spell certain words. He would answer me by saying look the word up in the dictionary so you know how to spell it and the definition of the word.  I became an A student because of his teaching. He would always say Sandy you can be whoever you want to be in life as long as you have Faith, Trust  and Believe . I live my Life by this philosophy . Thank you Dad. I Miss and Love you more than you could Imagine. I Love You Dad!!!
