George A. “Red” Morris Jr., of Kāneʻohe, died on November 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 6, 1939, in Jamaica, New York, to Catherine and George Morris. The fourth child and first son in a family of six children, Red grew up with a strong sense of family values and community.
After serving in the U.S. Coast Guard on active duty and Reserve from 1956 to 1963, Red attended Dean Junior College in Massachusetts. He first came to Hawaiʻi in 1961 after his sisters Kathleen and Peg generously gave him their red 1957 MGA convertible, which sparked his deep and lasting connection with the islands.
Red received a basketball scholarship and graduated from the University of Hawaiʻi in 1963 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He began his career at the Chamber of Commerce, where he discovered his passion for lobbying and advocacy.
He later became Executive Director of the Honolulu Board of Realtors, playing a key role in shaping real estate policies in the state. In 1975, Red founded G.A. Morris, Inc., a lobbying firm, and eventually partnered with John Radcliffe to create Capitol Consultants of Hawaii, expanding his influence in government and business circles.
In 1965, Red married the love of his life, Gail Bilecki. They built their dream home together in Kāneʻohe in 1972, where they raised their three daughters and enjoyed the beauty and tranquility of Kāneʻohe Bay. Red was a devoted husband and father, and his family was the center of his world.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Regina Chambers and Patricia Channer; brother Vincent; daughter Traci and grandson Adam Spencer. Red is survived by his wife Gail, daughters Malia Morris and Nani (Ross) Yamasaki; along with his nine cherished grandchildren: Paul McCarthy; Hope and Noa Spencer; Grant “Kika” Morris; Quinn, Haven (Kamaile), Tayte, and Asher Yamasaki; and sisters Kathleen and Pehgee.
A man of deep faith, Red lived his life with generosity, kindness, and a genuine love for people. He built friendships across the globe and worked closely with every Governor of Hawaiʻi from John A. Burns to the current administration. His legacy lives on through his family, his work, and the many lives he touched over the years.
Services will be held Tuesday, November 25, at St. Ann’s in Kāneʻohe: visitation at 11:30AM, service at 1:00PM, and burial at Greenhaven at 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made in Red’s name to the Kawehionāpua Foundation or the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation (memo: G. A. Morris ʻOhana Scholarship Fund), reflecting his generous spirit and commitment to community.
