To the family of Gregory, my sincere condolences to you.   I met Gregory in the early 60’s when we were students at St. John’s School.  That was so long ago, but my memory of Gregory is so vivid.  He was such a sweet person; very honorable.  I remember him as being so respectful and so sincere.  He was always so cheery and always smiling.  What really got the girls was his dimples!!  All the girls loved him because when he smiled, those dimples lit up the sky!!  He was an incredible person; mild-mannered, with such a good heart.  Along the years, when his name came up in conversation, it was with utmost respect and regard.  Now, 63 years later, I can honestly say it was such an honor to have known him.  In those years of attending St. John’s School, everyone there [both students and nuns] was family, and Gregory was an esteemed brother to us all.  God bless him.

GREG AUSTIN   A Tribute to a dear friend….				


Greg was a dear friend and a long-time member of our Kanikapila group that started making music together about ten years ago.  

As a diverse group of people from various professions, experiences, lifestyles, and with many different skills, talents, and gifts, we all shared a love for Hawaiian music. Greg’s musical talent, his quick wit and keen sense of humor helped the group to grow and develop as singers and musicians but more importantly as friends.  
 
He had a genuine interest in knowing about things and knowing about others.  And he graciously shared his interests…… in foraging and gathering things such as coconuts, mangoes, avocadoes, flowers and plants, …..in cooking, pickling, fishing and other things.  Sometimes he would stop playing music to go gather some coconuts or mangoes and then come back to play when he was done. Or, when he had pickled all the buckets of mangoes he had gathered, everyone got a bottle of pickled mango.

He generously shared his gifts, his talents, his love for life and you couldn’t help but catch the joy.   We’re going to miss that Hawaiian.  

Mahalo for bringing so much joy to our lives. Aloha my friend.  Live in the eternal delight of Akua.

Barbara, Brandy and Makana

Thinking of all of you at this time. We loss an awesome man. He had a heart of gold and the warmest smile I’ve ever seen. I first met Greg driving for OTS, he always greeted everyone with a warm aloha. Our friendship continues with memories of him coming to salt Lake District park watching  his children grow. Greg has been called back home to Ke Akua, and I’m sure Bricen was at the gate to reunite with him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time
