Work was constant in Kiyo’s life, and he continued to work until age 99. He spent the first half of his life in public school education, the second half as a certified financial planner, and his entire life educating those around him in personal finance. Hours not spent at his careers were filled with work. Constantly remodeling and improving his property, he sought to add value and beauty. This thread of beauty wove through a lifetime of experiences and
blossomed in his garden. His success at these varied endeavors was the product of an active, at times nearly overactive mind. An unconventional thinker, Kiyo lived in a constant state of “what if”, and was forever challenging underlying assumptions; a trait that was simultaneously marveled by and maddening to others. His ability to pull seemingly unrelated facts together to solve problems was highly valued and a lesson he taught to his family by example. Family was his motivation. Nothing topped having the “whole gang
together” in his garden during mango season.
He was always generous with his time, knowledge, and resources, did not hesitate to help those in need and genuinely wanted the best for everyone. He is deeply missed.
