

78, dearly loved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2022, surrounded by family. She was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in December 2021. On December 6, 1943, Loretta was born in Honolulu and graduated from Star of the Sea high school.
Loretta was passionate and supportive of her family and friends. She enjoyed growing plants and flowers, quilting, reading books, cooking, and baking. Loretta is well known for her ono guava jam, produced from her guava tree. She looked forward to Christmas time when she would prepare her famous Portuguese bean soup in a huge pot and bake a lot of sweet bread to share with friends and family.
Loretta worked at Marugame Nursery in Kaneohe for a few years. She became very knowledgeable about plants, which carried over to those beautiful plants around their yard. Loretta was the owner of Breeze Hairstyling salon in Kaneohe. She worked for the Department of Health's Newborn Metabolic Screening Program before retiring after 20 years. She was close to many of her co-workers, whom she considered family. Loretta was affectionately known as Oma by her grandchildren.
Loretta is survived by her husband of 58 years, Douglas, sons Timothy (Roseann) and Thomas (Bernadette) Freitas, daughter Theresa Kenui (Corey), and grandchildren Andrew and Lei Kenui, Dr. Joshua Freitas, and Preston (Cynthia) Freitas. She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert (Lillian) Lagerfeld, mother, Lorraine Lagerfeld, and brother Paul.
A celebration of life will be held at the Hawaiian Memorial Park in Kaneohe on Friday, May 13, 2022, with visitation from 4 pm - 5, and a ceremony from 5 pm - 6 pm.
