Born on July 1, 1960, in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, Maurey was the beloved son of the late Maurice Ninn Hoon Nip and Lily Ann Gaspar (Kaʻeka). He graduated from Waipahu High School in 1978.
At 17 years old, Maurey began working alongside his father at Allied Construction, Inc., where he remained a loyal and dedicated worker for over 30 years. Later, he continued his career as a foreman with Ralph S. Inouye, Inc. for 15 years until his passing. He took immense pride in his work and truly loved his job—it wasn’t just what he did, it was a part of who he was. Building was in his blood, and he was known for his strong work ethic, skill, and leadership on the job site.

Maurey was known for his quiet strength, sharp wit, and big heart. Whether sitting around a game table or just enjoying time at home, Maurey’s greatest joy was simply being with his ʻohana. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. Whether it was through his work, his humor, or his unwavering presence, Maurey left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
