Patricia Ann Leianuenue Su’a, age 81, of Kailua Hawaii passed away at her home in Kailua on Wednesday March 29, 2023. Patricia was born on July 31, 1941 to parents Alfonso and Josephine Cortes in Honolulu, Hawaii. She attended Sacred Hearts Academy from kindergarten and eventually graduated from the Academy in 1959. During her time at Sacred Hearts Academy, she met Frank P. Su’a Jr., our Dad and the love of her life. They were married on August 1,1959 and together have four beautiful daughters. Preceded in death by her sister Deborah Phillips, and survived by two siblings, Alfonso Cortes Jr. and Loretta Ramos, and her four daughters, Cynthia Buendia (Clifford), Carol Su’a-Godinet (Pio), Elizabeth Vegas (Keith), Patricia Kapoi (Dean), 17 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren, with one on the way.
She was a stay at home Mom raising her own girls while at the same time caring for additional children along the way, many of whom continue to keep in touch with her as adults and adoringly refer to her as Aunty Pat. In the early 1980’s while her girls were attending High School, Pat worked as an Educational Assistant caring for children with special needs. It was truly a calling for her. Her students loved her and she often times brought them home on the weekends where they immediately became a part of our family.
In 1986, Pat was blessed to take on a new title as Grandma. She raised and loved all 17 of them like no one could ever do. She taught them how to love and be loved. Mom was there for all of them every step of the way. She was always ready to love them, console them, guide them, praise them, laugh with them, and cherish every moment. She was a proud Grandma. Just when she thought she couldn’t find a greater and deeper love, she went on to become a Great Grandma and was lovingly referred to as “GG”. She loved her babies more than life.
Pat was so many things to so many people. She was everyone’s Mom, Grandma and Aunty Pat. As her daughters, we had no problem sharing her with the world because that was our life. She had the uncanny ability to raise us and love us without boundaries and unconditionally yet all the while sharing her love with our cousins, friends, teammates, family and more. Everyone felt just as we did, loved, welcomed and safe. Because Mom loved deeply and gave love so freely, we as a family were able to receive so much love in return. The one thing our Mom taught all of us was that Love Conquers All. She often said Love hard, love unconditionally and everything will be alright. We don’t know how to put into words what she truly meant to everyone because she was so special. She was the greatest gift to us and we are so blessed that God would choose us to call her Mom. Being one of a kind is truly an understatement. We are thankful that you were a part of her journey here on earth because she is truly irreplaceable. Until we meet again Mom fly with Angels, we Love you.
