

Robert A. Godinez, Sr., 90, of Lanai City, Lanai, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025. His warm presence, humble spirit, and unwavering devotion to his family will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A proud veteran, Robert served as a Sergeant and Supply Specialist in the U.S. Air Force, worked at the Hickam Air Force Base Commissary, and retired as a heavy equipment operator at the Ted Makalena Golf Course. Throughout his life, Robert was known as a simple man who worked hard and took pride in all that he did. He was a man who loved his family and would do anything for them. He enjoyed dancing, golfing, lobster fishing, making Maruya, and in his later years, developed a love for powerlifting.
He leaves behind sons, Robert Godinez, Jr. and Rex (Novena) Godinez; daughters, Martha (Gary) Godinez Shim and Rodena (Edward) Akiu; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother Albert (Frances) Godinez; sister Margaret (Ronald) Freitas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Mercedes Yrojo Godinez; his parents, Tranquilino and Francisca Godinez; brothers Bonifacio (Rita) Godinez and Crispolo Godinez; sisters Florentina (Daniel) Kaiklian, Josephine (Antonio) Endrina, and Marcella Godinez.
A celebration of life for Robert A. Godinez, Sr. will be held at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Military honors and burial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Hawaii State Veteran’s Cemetery.
