From stories his mom told me he was a big baby & a long labor.

Kailua Boyz, Left to Right. Kalani, Pi’i, Ke’a, Aila, Keone. Kalani now your reunited with your friend. Take care of each other and you both are deeply loved and missed!

These two had a bond/relationship like no other. Something I longed for & wished I had with my dad. She was truly a daddies girl 💗

Our daughter competed in Hula Oni E competition for several years with our Halau. We always stayed in Waikiki at least 4-5 days because the competition was 3 days in a row over Labor Day weekend. It was just to hectic driving back & forth from Kailua to Waikiki for 3 days straight. We always went 1 day before the competition & 1 day after so she could relax & unwind before she went off with Kumu & Halau to prep, prepare & perform.

Never in my life I would’ve thought we would loose you this way, this young. Our worst fear came true the moment you left. One day here & the next day you were gone. You never know when your last moment will come. Hold each other tighter, say your I love you’s more, take that quality time with each other trips/vacations. Accomplish your goals & dreams. We had our last accomplishment to fulfill & was in the works to completing it. Live your life to the fullest day in day out. Because you never know when it will be your last….

Today makes 8 weeks without you 💔 it still doesn’t feel like it’s real! Is this how our love story ends? You broke my heart for a second time. You didn’t deserve this, we didn’t deserve this. You had so much to live for, so much to do still. It still hurts as the day you left. I hope you see how much we cry for you, miss you, love you, needed you & wanted you. You were a huge blessing & impact in our lives. I will never understand why you were taken away from us…. But I still love you with all of me. Rest in Paradise Aila🩵Butterfly Kisses🦋

Has it gotten any better or easier??? Nope, still the same. I’ve been having recurring dreams of that morning when we found & lost you. No one prepares you for losing a loved one. Believe me, I lost my Mama Dias(Tutu) who helped raise me & my dad which was devastating. Losing a spouse is on a totally different level. It tears apart your heart & soul. Our entire world got flipped upside down & forever changed. Missing you is no longer just a feeling it’s part of me everyday. I just simply exist in this world without you….. Love you Aila 🩵 Butterfly Kisses 🦋

Wish they had a little more time with him 💔 they were his heart, his entire universe, his existence……

This man always kept me on my toes. Like I said never a dull moment in our home. 7 years ago another bike accident/injury. Fractured Knee this time. Did he listen to me or the doctors to stay off his bike for 3-4 months. Negative, he was back at in a month. Gonna miss his lipping from the car to the door when he came back from a ride & asking wtf happened now???

Like father like son! Can you guess what Bubs is doing???

Reisha competed several times with her Halau for
this hula competition. She’s been dancing since she just made 4 years old.

It makes 6 weeks today since you gone 💔 our life’s forever change & shattered without you here with us. It doesn’t get easier as they say. You simply try to navigate through this life without you in it. Which is hard & difficult because you were always by our side & forever in our hearts 🫶 we love & miss you Aila🦋 4.14.26

Our second trip to Maui to visit Aila’s older brother Regan. We would go every year for Mother’s Day or Memorial Day weekend.

Our son Reign was born on November 1, 2004 early afternoon. The day after Halloween, 2 days after my due date. I had to check into the hospital & get induced. His given Hawaiian name Kahaloaakamakahiki (the long lasting breath of my father) our Kumu Snowbird named him. I called her before I went into labor & after I gave birth. She was on Maui at the time & called me the next morning with his name. Chicken skin moment! Aila’s middle name is Kamakahiki & it’s a family name from generations ago. Kumu didn’t know that was Aila’s middle name when naming our son. Reason for his name we lost him. While in labor he flatlined, his heart stopped. I was trying for a natural birth not another c-section but he had other plans. While Aila was walking my mom to her car so she could grab Reisha for us. Reign’s heartbeat crashed. The nurses & doctors came running into the room & took me into the operating room. Aila came back to my room & noticed I was gone & panicked. They strapped me down to the bed & was going to do an emergency c-section. Cutting me from top to bottom not side to side like Reisha’s. They only had 45 seconds to get him out before brain damage. They didn’t communicate this to me & I was freaking out wondering what is happening. They gave me a medicine to jack up my heartbeat to see if it would make boys come back. It literally felt like my heart was gonna explode. Which it did bring boys heartbeat back faintly. They refused to let Aila in because he was loosing his shit in my old room trying to look for me & with an emergency c-section they wouldn’t allow him in. Finally the kind anesthesiologist while wiping my eyes with a tissue asked if I bring him in you think both of you will calm down. I nodded yes! They let him in & immediately he came to my head & gave me butterfly kisses🦋whispering it’s all going to be ok. Our momona haole 9 pound baby boy; ehu hair, blonde eyebrows. Stubborn & hardheaded just like his dad. But has the biggest heart ever just like dad.

Will this heaviness in my chest ever end. Will the knots in my stomach ever go away. Will this emptiness be gone. Will the boy’s begging and asking for help that morning go away. Will the girls screaming ever get out of my head. Will seeing her trying and begging you to wake up leave my mind….that morning our entire lives shattered and fell apart. We miss you Aila 💔

It makes 5 weeks today since you left💔 & we’re still in shock. Is this even real or possible??? How were you fine the day before talking, laughing and being your typical self doing your typical daily routine & the next day gone. No goodbyes, no I love you, no nothing just gone! I lost the other half of my heart that morning & the kids did too. They say in time it will get easier, well it doesn’t. You’re just simply existing in this world without them. Losing a love one always hurts. But losing your other half & father of your kids that you created a family and life with is on a whole different level. Tomorrow is never promised so hug your love ones tighter. Say your I love you’s each & every day because you never know when it will be your last. We love & miss you Aila 💗

That teasing face & sticking out her tongue she use to make at me when she just wanted her daddy 🫶

It makes one month today that you left us & I still can’t believe it! It’s a nightmare that I can’t wake up from. I’m still in shock, sad, heartbroken, mad, angry and in disbelief. I still find myself calling or texting you, sending you funny videos, waiting for you to come home from work or a ride. Everyday I see your jeep parked outside & think he’s back home. You left way too soon. We had so much more to do and accomplish together. Please keep visiting me in my dreams & watch over me & the babies….. We love & miss you so much! Butterfly kisses🦋 Forever in our hearts Ronald Lewis Kamakahiki Aila Jr.

Our daughter Reisha was born on April 13, 1999. as the sun was rising and soft misty rain falling. Her given Hawaiian name Kuuipowehiwaikalihau (my precious sweetheart in the cool gentle rain) After 27 hours of labor the doctors decided to do an urgent c-section. Her heart rate was dropping and my blood pressure was rising. During the surgery I was nervous and crying thinking were going to loose her & Aila calmed me down by whispering in my ear and rubbing his nose and giving soft gentle kisses against my forehead, telling me everything will be okay; we got this! Butterfly 🦋 kisses. I finally calmed down and relaxed. She finally arrived, her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck. She came out blue and Aila says “oh you gave me a smurfette” the doctors and nurses started laughing. Only a man like him could bust a joke during a scary moment. Reisha is his pride and joy! She changed him a lot, we seen the softer side of him that others didn’t get to see. Yes we were young parents I was only 21 and he just made 26 but we navigated parenthood together. She gave him hope and a will to live because almost two months later we lost his Mom to Pancreatic Cancer. She said she was waiting till Reisha was born and wanted to make sure her baby boy will be okay. He often told me once mom goes he will go too. But this loud, rascal, talkative, mischievous, stubborn & hardheaded little girl saved him. Yes, she was just like him as a toddler & kid. His apple of his eye, his pride and joy💗

It’s been exactly 3 weeks since you left us. Still can’t believe you’re gone! We still don’t know what happened or how it happened. It still hurts the same as the day you left us. They say in time you will get better but I’m still the same. You use to say enjoy your life to the fullest because you never know when it will be your last. We suppose to grow old and gray together. Watch our kids get married and start their own families. Then we could have finally have some time together just me and you. You would say no ways my babies will live with me forever with their own families too. You were taken too soon and we still needed you. I’m taking comfort you are reunited with our love ones especially your mom. I know she was waiting for you with open arms and a slap in the head and pulled your ear. You were a mamas boy and she loved you so much as we do. Love you Aila 🫶

Much people don’t know our history of how we ended up together. I’ve been with Aila for 29 years. But we met each other when I was 6 years old and he was almost 12 years old. That’s another story for another time…..we dated briefly when I was a 11th grade but it didn’t work out on both sides. I was young still in high school. Born and raised in Ewa Beach. He was still young also born and raised in Kailua/Waimanalo and the distance was just too much. He was out and about hanging with friends, going to clubs, house parties & getting into his shenanigans or up in the mountains riding his “BETSY” his beloved bike or he called it his first love. I was more of a homebody, went to the beach to bodyboard, read books at library or at home. So he ended it which broke my heart 💗 but I understood because we were young, distance and different. Fast forward 4 years later I just moved back from Big Island coming out of a severely violent domestic abuse relationship. I was broken, damaged, beaten up emotionally, physically and barely alive but made it back home to Oahu. Over the course of a few months recovering our mutual family and friends would say Ronald is asking about you, He’s worried about you and wants to talk to you. I kept brushing it off because at that time I wasn’t ready and just wanted to be left alone. A few more months goes by the phone rings and I’m home alone at my parents house and I’m scared to answer it because of the psych ex who was still stalking me and making my life difficult. I finally answer it and it’s Aila “Hey it’s me, how are you, are you okay to talk” which eventually develop into a friendship again and would turn into a relationship. He took a broken, shattered, cold hearted & damaged girl and turned her life around. He taught her how to love again, and how it is to be loved, protected, safe and build her back up piece by piece…..and that is part of our story. Butterfly Kisses 🦋

I’ve worked with Ron for a couple months at Hyundai. He was a nice and hardworking guy, always cracking jokes and would always make work chaotic and fun. He would always talk about his family and how he was excited for weekends to go ride dirtbike, always wanting poke bowls and asking me at 8am where you going for lunch Tita cause he was already hungry even though the day just started, always talked about his gout and how the best thing was that God woke us up. Always brought so much laughter to everybody. May he rest easy, My Condolences.

I worked with Ron for the past year here at Tony Hyundai service department. He was always joking around and telling stories about growing up in Kailua, mountain biking, his family and much more. He was a true warrior on days when his gout was painful. He would be hobbling along but that didn't stop him from doing his duties. I shot this portrait of him because he reminded me of a movie poster. He like it too. Aloha, until we meet again, your friend Wilber

My baby brother, our Heavenly Father has called you home. I may never understand the reason, and I will not question the Lord’s plan. I hold faith that we will meet again in His paradise. Until that day comes, I will cry, my heart will ache, and I will miss you deeply. I love you, my brother. In Jesus’ name, may God bless you.

With the death of my baby brother who I held in my arms upon birth I have never wanted to go home as much as I do right now to be with my family during this time of great sorrow. I still can't believe he is gone but know in my heart that our Mom was waiting for him with all the love she always gave him. I watched him grow from a precious baby, a kolohe little boy, a break dancing teenager (he was amazing!) into a beautiful young man who adored his long-time love, Elsa. His love for his children made me so very proud of him. All the pictures posted of his passion in mountain biking brings back many memories. I love you little one. Your big sister.
