Alfred “Al” Joseph Piontek, 84, of Kansas City, MO passed away Monday, February 17, 2020 surrounded by family. A Visitation will be held Sunday, February, 23, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, with rosary prayed at 7:30 PM, at the McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City, MO. Mass of Christian Burial is Monday, February 24, 2020 at 11:00 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 900 Shady Lane, Kansas City, MO followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City.
Al was born February 11, 1936 in Higginsville, MO to Eleanor (Kopp) and Joseph M. Piontek. After graduation from Higginsville High School he moved to Kansas City to start his career. On a blind date, he met Sharon Flandermeyer, whom he would marry. They enjoyed 60 years together. During his working life, he was employed by Graves Truck Line, later known as ANR Freight System.
As a boy, Al achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and he would later share his love for the outdoors with his family and take them camping. He also enjoyed square dancing with his wife, playing golf, and fishing.
Al is preceded in death by wife; his parents; his son Michael Piontek; and his brother, Joe Piontek. Survivors include his children, Cindy Freeman, Shelley Breshears, Sandy Piontek, Greg (Lee Ann) Piontek and Sheila Sirridge; sisters, Rosemary Hinson and Sylvia Betts; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
