

Anita Lemmon, 86, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, January 5 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, January 4 at the funeral home.
Anita was born November 9, 1925 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Richard and Jessie James Morris. She both graduated from Pittsburg High School and married her husband (at the age of 16) William G. Lemmon during World War II. After graduation, Anita helped the war effort by working as a riveter and joining the USO, where she danced with soldiers. She went to Kansas City Kansas Community College and then worked in the healthcare industry until her retirement in 2003. Anita was known by all to be a feisty lady who definitely wasn’t afraid to let you know her opinions, but her family meant everything to her. She always kept busy and was famous for her peanut brittle. Anita was also a proud member of the Cherokee Nation.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Jessie James Morris, her sister, Lydia O’Connell; brothers RJ Morris and Rex Morris; her husband of 62 years, William G. Lemmon and her daughter Billie Anita Ames.
Anita is survived by her sons Richard Charles Lemmon and wife Cheryl of Pittsburg, Kansas; Christopher David Lemmon and wife Janet of Kansas City, Kansas; her son/grandson Scott Bradley Lemmon of Kansas City, Kansas; her grandchildren Alexander, Nicholas, Rachelle, Stefanie, Jeremy, Natalie, Jason and Lori; her great grandchildren Vanessa, Amber, Bain, Tyler, Tristan, Brayden, Bailey, Jeyda and Allison, as well as two dear friends Marilyn Maye and Lore Flanagan.
