Barbara Beth Minneman was born in Salina, Kansas on April 7, 1923 and died June 29, 2015 at age 92, the last surviving member of her family. She is survived by her husband, William F. Zimmer. She lived all of her early years in the area around Salina, graduating from high school in Tescott and attending college in McPherson. She taught school in central and southwest Kansas schools, retiring from Piper School District in 1980. During those years, she earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Marymount College in Salina and a Master’s degree in education from Emporia State. She married William Hawkins and with him drove trucks cross country for four years. In that time they visited all 48 of the “lower 48” states before his passing. In 1980, Barbara and Bill Zimmer were married and recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. They have attended Maywood Community Church since 1981.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 7th at 10:30AM at Maywood Community Church, 11201 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas 66109. Inurnment will be at a later date at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas, 66112. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Maywood Community Church and/or Kansas City Hospice, 1500 Meadow Lake Parkway, Suite. 200, Kansas City, Missouri 64114.
